In line with the United Nations’ declaration of 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer, Fruitful Education proudly supports and champions the vital role women play across agrifood systems. Women farmers are central to food security, nutrition, and economic resilience, yet their contributions often go unrecognized and under-resourced. Through education, skills development, and community-focused initiatives, Fruitful Education is committed to empowering women and girls with the knowledge and opportunities they need to thrive. By investing in women farmers, we help close gender gaps, strengthen livelihoods, and build more sustainable and resilient communities for generations to come.

As part of the International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026, Fruitful Education will host a special lunch and meeting for female farmers at our family farm, in collaboration with the female Mayor of Tarariras (Diana Olivera). This welcoming gathering will bring women together to share experiences, exchange ideas, and build meaningful connections over a shared meal. By uniting community leaders and women farmers, the event in March 2026 will celebrate women’s leadership in agriculture while fostering collaboration, learning, and collective growth.

RECENT NEWS

Working closely with members of the local town, we were delighted to reach a shared agreement to plant trees within the community. Thanks to the generous donation of saplings from ANEP, this initiative came to life with the help of dedicated volunteer parents, enthusiastic schoolchildren eager to get involved, and curious passersby who stopped to learn more about the tree-growing process.

We were also thrilled to welcome a volunteer who joined us all the way from Madrid, Spain! A heartfelt thank you to Camila for her invaluable support with the children’s classes and the planting process. We truly enjoyed having you with us and very much look forward to welcoming you back to Frutos de la Escuela in the future 🌱

As part of our ongoing commitment to creating nurturing spaces where children can learn and thrive, we were proud to support the repainting of the local school. Working hand in hand with the community, this project was about more than fresh walls and brighter classrooms — it was about investing in an environment that inspires creativity, wellbeing, and a love of learning.

With the help of dedicated volunteers and the local school community, the school was transformed into a more welcoming and uplifting space for its students. Moments like these remind us that small acts of care can make a lasting difference, and we are grateful to everyone who picked up a paintbrush and helped bring this vision to life

RECENT DISCUSSION PANEL TO CELEBRATE THE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE FEMALE FARMER

03/31/2026

In line with the United Nations’ declaration of 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer, Fruitful Education proudly supports and champions the vital role women play across agrifood systems. Women farmers are central to food security, nutrition, and economic resilience, yet their contributions often go unrecognized and under-resourced.

Through education, skills development, and community-focused initiatives, Fruitful Education is committed to empowering women and girls with the knowledge and opportunities they need to thrive. By investing in women farmers, we help close gender gaps, strengthen livelihoods, and build more sustainable, resilient communities for generations to come.

As part of this global initiative, Fruitful Education hosted a special gathering in March 2026 at our family farm, in collaboration with the Mayor of Tarariras, Diana Olivera. The event brought together more than thirty women for an afternoon of meaningful exchange, connection, and shared learning in a warm and welcoming setting.

Throughout the afternoon, a series of speakers led engaging conversations on topics central to rural life and development.

Discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening social networks through shared goals, planning, and collaboration, as well as the value of cooperation in areas such as technology, machinery, and labor.

Sustainability was explored from both environmental and economic perspectives, with reflections on land stewardship, productive outcomes, financial resilience, and the balance between scale and intensification.

The conversation also turned to rural economics and finance, examining current opportunities and trends, alongside the essential role of women entrepreneurs in shaping the future of the sector. Access to financial systems and credit was recognized as a key factor in enabling growth and innovation.

Participants considered rights and responsibilities within rural communities, including frameworks for conflict resolution, shared accountability in the use of land and water, and the importance of conservation.

Practical challenges such as livestock management, theft, and poaching were addressed with openness and insight.

Gender equity remained at the heart of the gathering, with reflections on leadership, purposeful entrepreneurship, and the recognition of unpaid work. The discussion also touched on family dynamics, legal rights, and the physical and social challenges women may face in rural work environments.

Finally, the role of education and the rural family as the foundation of national agriculture was explored, with a focus on training future professionals, encouraging younger generations to remain connected to rural life, and promoting well-being through nutrition, health, sport, and recreation.

Held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Establecimiento Los Gurises in Manantiales, Colonia, the gathering was both enriching and inspiring. We feel truly fortunate to have shared this experience with such remarkable women, and we are grateful for their presence. We look forward to continuing to create spaces like this, where ideas, experiences, and community can grow together.

Having spent many holidays in Uruguay, we formed close friendships with local gaucho children and became deeply connected to their communities. Through these relationships, we quickly recognized the severe lack of funding in rural public schools and the everyday challenges children face simply trying to learn.

Our journey began modestly. We donated birthday vouchers to help schools purchase basic resources—starting with something as simple, yet essential, as a printer. Over time, it became clear that what these schools truly needed was something more sustainable, something that would continue to give long after a single donation was spent.

That is how Fruitful Education found its roots.

We plant mburucuya trees in the playgrounds of rural public schools, offering children access to fresh fruit—something many would not otherwise have. Beyond nourishment, these trees become living classrooms. Children learn how to care for and nurture a plant, developing responsibility, patience, and a connection to nature. The trees also provide much-needed shade during Uruguay’s intense summer heat, improving daily school life in a practical and lasting way.

During a recent summer, I spent three weeks at my family’s estancia, Los Gurises, visiting nearby rural schools to plant citrus saplings. When the children returned to school on Monday, they were welcomed by these young trees—ready to grow alongside them and begin a shared learning journey. I documented this work through photographs as a testament to our commitment and the impact of our mission.

At Fruitful Education, we believe that small, thoughtful actions can grow into meaningful, lasting change—one tree, one child, and one school at a time.
